OSMA letter requesting House Bill 173 support

Dear promoter of the health and safety of children and reducing their future cost of health care by prohibiting the sale of hazardous tanning parlor ultraviolet radiation to minors: Below is information on the members of the Consumer Affairs and Economic Protection Committee with Matt Lundy as chairman.  Chairman Lundy has been a fair and impartial chairman.  Three hearings have been held and the proponents (us) for House Bill 173 did well with our testimony.  The House with our Committee are on a summer recess.  When they return in September, there probably will be a vote on House Bill 173.  WE HAVE JUST A SHORT TIME PERIOD FOR EVERYONE POSSIBLE TO DO SOMETHING POSITIVE IN COMMUNICATING WITH THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND ECONOMIC PROTECTION COMMITTEE REGARDING OUR CONCERN FOR PASSAGE OF HOUSE BILL 173.

Please communicate with the committee members and any other legislator possible.  Please write a letter in support of House Bill 173 and do as much of the following as possible.

  1. Write a letter addressed to Chairman Lundy and members and send a copy to each of the committee members and your and any other representative
  2. E-mail a copy of the letter to Chairman Lundy and to each of the committee members and your and any other representative
  3. SEND AND E-MAIL A COPY OF THE LETTER ADDRESSED TO HOUSE SPEAKER ARMOND BUDISH AND MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE
  4. Please send a copy of the letter to luke@fuse.net. For Q & A call (513) 863-3555.

There are two websites that can give you much background material for your letters.  They are www.ohderm.org with examples of letters etc. that were previously used for House Bill 230 and www.indoortanningreportcard.org/.   Also please encourage others to write letters of support and to contact the legislators.

Please accent such items as:

  1. The hazards of tanning parlor ultraviolet radiation
  2. HOUSE BILL 173 IS A PUBLIC HEALTH LEGISLATION MATTER. Not every child is born of knowledgeable, concerned parents regarding the hazards of tanning bed ultraviolet radiation and not every parent knows enough about its hazards and can protect their child
  3. It is safer to obtain Vitamin D through diet and supplements than production through skin and stimulation through hazardous tanning parlor radiation
  4. No one has the right to endanger a child’s health, safety or life through exposure to hazardous tanning parlor radiation or any other means such as alcohol, cigarettes, guns etc

AT YOUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE, PLEASE COMMUNICATE WITH THE LEGISLATORS AND BE A PART OF HELPING MAKE A POTENTIAL SIGNIFICANT HISTORICAL MEDICAL EVENT HAPPEN.  TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.

Thank you for your caring, concern, cooperation and communication skills
